Carl Rungius specialized in paintings of American wildlife, particularly big game animals of the Rocky Mountains and Canada. He hunted and used the animals he shot- bears, moose, caribou, goats, deer - in the plein-air paintings he made in the wilderness. He had often visited the Berlin Zoo and even a glue factory, to study animals so he could become familiar with thier muscles, bone, tendon and tissue. He lived in the Los Angeles area from 1936 to 1939. at the time of the GHS collection purchase. September 2023 PastPerfect Conversion |
