Only explorers who made no conquests by the sword are featured. South wall Norseman Leif Erickson landing on Vineland, Marco Polo at the court of Kublai Khan and Columbus landing on the Bahamas. North wall are Magellan passing through stormy straits, Captain Cook exploring the South Sea Islands and Admiral Byrd in Antarctica. Signed on north wall, bottom right corner "Federal Art Project W.P.A. ‘39". Assisted by Grace Measham. Library has GSA FA20643 preparatory drawings for mural.
