Description |
The painting depicts a bedraggled-looking clown sitting at a table with different dishes of food. The subject is Emmett Kelly as "Weary Willie", a character based on the tramps and hobos of the Depression, created by Kelly in 1932. He played in the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus from 1942 to 1956. It is framed in a carved and gilded frame measuring 49 x 37 inches.
