Description |
Torpedo shaped with pointed base, angled shoulder, long neck with disc form mouth and elongated handles from shoulder to below lip, stamped impression on the shoulder "ACIMME" or "AGIMNE". The amphora has a rounded, cylindrical body with a very long neck and a pointed foot. Two long, narrow handles are attached to the neck and shoulder of the jar. A stamp on the shoulder reads "ACIMME". The amphora is wedged into a metal support stand. The amphora was originally in the collection of Venice High School. According to an inventory conducted in 1988, the piece is described as a "Commercial Amphora -- circa 2400-2500 years of age. It is made of off-white ceramics. It has the owner's stamp on the shoulder. It has a spike on the bottom and two opposed handles…" The amphora is #1 on the inventory list. Description Modified: 7/28/2010 |
