The group of four panels depicts the history of printing. Each panel depicts a different time and advancement in the process of printing. The paintings are on canvas that has been affixed to the alcove walls. "The History of the Recorded Word"; (1) "Hieroglyphs"; (2) "Manuscripts"; (3) "The First Printers" and (4) "Modern Printing" "LIBRARY MURALS/Ross Dickinson, artist, explained murals to classes. Four panels showed the development of Printing. He selected the most beautiful Greek writings and used harmonizing colors with a few contrasting. Ross Dickinson stated the reason for choosing this subject was its appropriateness for a school library. 'A mural must fit the building in which it is to be placed; therefore this painting is simplified, clear cut, and modern, as is the Jefferson High School building'." Haskins removed the murals, restored and cleaned them and then reinstalled back to original locations of the renovated library, 09/17/2024. |
