A collection of materials related to the "Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission for Schools" accreditation of San Pedro High School. ME143a: "Certificate of Accreditation through June 30,1985" measuring 6" x 8", framed in a 8" x 10" black metal frame. Signed by Eugene B. Even, Commission Chairman, and Lyle E. Siverson, Executive Director. Condition: Fair - yellowed. ME143b: "Certificate of Accreditation through June 30, 1976" measuring 6" x 8", framed in a 7" x 9" black plastic frame. Signed by Robert D. Morgans, Commission Chairman, and J. Wesley Berry, Executive Director. Condition: Fair - yellowed. ME143c: A folded blue, white, and yellow banner measuring 36" x 60" (sight), reading "Accreditation by Western Association for Schools and Colleges.", 20th Century. Condition: Good. ME143d. LA Times newspaper article dated July 29, 1971 "Accreditation Limited at 4 L.A. High Schools" and related documents. Condition: Fair - yellowed. ME143e. Handwritten record with columns including: "classified", "districts", "department". 1903: San Pedro High School Established San Pedro High School did not have its own building when it was established SPHS originated on the 2nd floor of the Sixteenth Street School (now Fifteenth Street School) 1906: The high school was relocated to its own high school building at 1221 South Gaffey St 1909: Annexed into Los Angeles City Schools 1933: The Long Beach earthquake damaged the Gaffey Street high school 1933: A new new high school was built at the current SPHS site, 1001 w. 15th Street San Pedro High School mascot is the Pirate |
