Description |
Torpedo shaped, pointed base, neck with swelling lip and loop handles on either side, in a modern tripod. The amphora has a narrow, cylindrical body with a short neck and a pointed foot. Two short, rounded handles are attached to the neck and shoulder of the jar. The amphora is wedged into a metal support stand. The amphora was in the collection of Venice High School. According to an inventory conducted in 1988, the piece is described as a "Commercial Amphora -- it is positioned on an iron tripod. Circa 2400-2500 B.C. The neck is covered with the remains of sea creatures near the neck and mouth. It is off-white ceramics…it has two opposed handles on the neck…and had a spike on the bottom."
